Participants spoilt for choice following reveal of conference program

Tuesday's release of the slate of concurrent sessions at the 'Mission: one heart many voices' conference has participants raring to go...

If you haven’t yet registered for Australia’s premier conference on mission to be held in Sydney next month, take a look at the program and join us now!

That’s the advice from Peter Gates, Deputy National Director of Catholic Mission, joint organisers with Catholic Religious Australia of the ‘Mission: one heart many voices’ conference, to be held from May 13-15 at the SMC Conference and Function Centre.

It comes following the release on Tuesday of the program of concurrent sessions, which reveals a wealth of interactive and immersive masterclasses, workshops, keynotes and conversations across the conference’s three days.

‘The program entails a broad cross-section of contemporary issues, from caring for our common home, to working towards healing for those so hurt by the failings of our Church, to our ongoing striving for reconciliation with our Indigenous brothers and sisters,’ says Mr Gates.

‘The ‘Mission: one heart many voices’ conference intends to support participants to live and lead mission in their workplaces, parishes, and communities, providing the tools and inspiration to do that through the immensely rich talent presenting and facilitating across the program.’

The program can be viewed online, with registrations fast filling up. ‘Now is the time to register and begin thinking about what insights and questions you can bring to the conference,’ says Mr Gates.

‘While it is intended to be a mission learning and development space, it has always been as much about listening and dialogue and nurturing familiar and unfamiliar relationships between participants.’

Keynote speakers at the conference include Dr Carol Zinn ssj, Executive Director of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious; Coordinator of Murri Ministry in Queensland Ravina Waldren; and Bishop Paul Tighe, one of the Vatican’s chief officials on culture and communication.

HIghlights of the program include:

The Listening and Dialogue phase has now ended and marks the completion of the first stage of the journey towards Plenary Council 2020. The themes that have emerged from this phase will be announced from June 9. This Masterclass is an opportunity to discuss with the President of the Plenary Council and the Lead Facilitator some of the insights from the analysis of the submissions and to have the opportunity to experience the process of the next stage, Listening and Discernment, which will begin at Pentecost 2019.

This session will be an open invitation for all participants to engage with Indigenous leaders Mrs Ravina Waldren and Mrs Evelyn Parkin. Bring your questions and thoughts along, listen deeply to others, share your own perspective and let your voice be heard.

A masterclass led by Dr Carol Zinn ssj exploring what leadership for mission means today. This session will consider key qualities and practices in a good leader, particularly in relation to the issues facing faith-based organisations.

This workshop, presented by Joel Duval and Charlene Robson, will focus on practical concepts Dioceses/Organisations/Groups can use with youth today in the secular world to assist them in exploring their faith and what that means. This focus includes both school and post school youth. The workshop will affirm participants that the youth of today are faith-filled people who yearn for a relationship with God and what this looks like with practical examples. This interactive workshop will focus on the key learnings from the 2018 Synod of Bishops on Young People, Faith and Vocational Discernment and explore what it means for us as a Church today. The workshop process will include many practical tools and ideas for participants that might suit their own circumstances, diocese/organisation.

This workshop will scope out where our formation as Catholic Christians needs to be underpinned by personal experiences in nature that connect heart, mind and soul enabling an ecological conversion to take place. The workshop will ground learning from personal experience and walk you through a change process with examples to illustrate how one’s heart, head and hands can carry out the mission of the church by enculturating Laudato Si’ into our life and your Catholic agency or organisation. This workshop is for those who need their batteries charged ‘in this space’ or need to convert their thinking and behaviour from ‘fossil to the future’.
