St Victor’s Integrated Agriculture Project is in the Northern Region of Ghana, in the Tamale Archdiocese. The project will support St Victor’s Major Seminary, which covers the five Dioceses of Wa, Navrongo-Bolgatanga, Yendi, Damongo and Tamale Archdiocese. These five dioceses constitute the Tamale Ecclesiastical Province (TEP). St Victor’s provides training for diocesan priests in the Northern Region, as well as training for religious congregations and other dioceses both nationally and internationally.

The seminary relies on small subsidies from Rome, as well as some local financial support. However, the seminary is struggling to support itself, and risks closure if it cannot meet ongoing costs, forcing the seminarians to move to the urban, more affluent south, continuing the pattern of north-south migration in Ghana.

This project aims to increase the self-sufficiency and sustainability of St Victor’s Major Seminary by establishing a functional farm, where seminarians will be trained in agriculture production and marketing

The farm will provide an alternative source of food for the seminarians and will also generate income to fund seminarian training and maintenance of the seminary. The primary produce will include quality birds, livestock and cereal products which will be sold to hotels and restaurants across the country.

At the completion of their studies, the seminarians will be placed in rural parishes, and will be able to transfer their development knowledge and agricultural and marketing skills to communities. This will help communities to improve food security and nutrition, as well as boost income levels in these areas, thus reducing one of the key drivers for migration to urban centres.
